Miss Roopa

Miss Roopa hails from Madikeri and had initially only studied till third standard. But later she shifted to The Rakum Institute, where she passed her SSLC at the age of 22. Since then, she has completed her BA Degree and also serves as a Braille Trainer and hostel warden at Arkavathy Layout. She also practices Yoga and Karate regularly and apart from Kannada, has mastered English and even a little Japanese!

Mrs Vinitha Vasu

Vinitha was the first Supreme Leader of our School. She successfully completed her MA Degree in Political Science from our Institution. She got married to Mr Vasu, a builder and is blessed with two kids. Vinitha visits her Alma mater regularly. She has been blessed with a caring husband, who loves social service and his wife's school also. He helped us in completing the High school and Hostel building at Devanahalli in record time of 40 days. Mr Vasu articulates: "It's all because of love for my wife who graduated from this institution."

Mrs Deepa

Deepa's marriage was celebrated inside our School campus and it was the first wedding of our Institution. She joined us at her 14 and was with us till 20. She is a good dancer, an efficient non-veg cook and is very smart in dressing up. She was the Women's knock-down champion of our schools Yoga expert, very loving and talkative. She is blessed with a affectionate husband and a daughter. Deepa visits us every month. In fact our Institution is like her mother's home.

Miss Veena Kumari

Veena Kumari studied in normal school till her 7th standard. In 1988, she had low vision in both eyes so that she could manage read and write. After that she got operated in both eyes. But after the operation, her eyesight was so low that she could not read and write anything.

After losing her eye sight that much she stayed at home for 10 years. In 1st March, 1998 she got the information about this school from the advertisement in newspaper. She immediately joined Rakum School for the blind in 10th standard. In 1999 she passed her 10th standard in first division. After that she immediately joined B.A. correspondence here and completed the B.A. degree in 2002. She joined M.A. in political science in 2003 and completed M.A. in 2004 from Rakum School for the blind.

After that she got the job in Rakum School for the blind, Indiranagar as a warden in girl’s hostel for 2 years. Then in 2006 she was appointed as the headmistress of school for 1 year in Arkavati Rakum School for the blind. In 2007 she came back to Indiranagar school and now she is working as a lecturer in political science for B.A students.

In 2010 she got admission in B.ED. in Venketeshwara college and completed her B.ED in 2011. Now she is working here as a lecturer. She wants to serve this institution in future also.

Miss Sharada

Miss Sharada was brought to our school by an Eenadu correspondent from the borders of Andhra Pradesh. She was blind, 13 years old and had never been to school either. Thanks to the uncompromising commitment of her teachers, she now speaks English, has a yellow belt in Karate, teaches yoga and chants bhajans effortlessly. She loves using a computer and has dreams to become a software engineer. After Graduation Sharada is Waiting for B.Ed result.

Miss Padma

Miss Padma after completing her SSLC at Davangere Blind School, came to Sri Rakum School for Blind in Indira Nagar. Not only did she complete her post graduation in Political Science from Rakum Higher Education Centre, she found time to pursue her passions and hobbies. She can speak different languages like English, Hindi and Kannada. She did her B.Ed & awaiting for result.

She is a brown belt in Kyokushin Karate besides being a yoga teacher and a singer. Five years ago, she was appointed the Head Mistress of Rakum Pre-primary School Arkavathy Layout and is also a visiting professor at the Rakum Higher Education Centre. She is 29 and wishes to have an intelligent man as her partner.

Mr. V Nataraj

Mr. V. Nataraj is a born partially sighted person. He has done his studies up to 10th in a normal school. He completed his 10th in 1996. After that his eye sight reduced slowly that he could not read the books. After losing his eye sight completely he stayed at home till 2002.

He joined the school in 2003. In the beginning he felt some difficulty because of English medium but later on with the help of teachers he completed his B.A in 2006 in ARTS.

In 2007, he took training for Civil service exams and appeared for that exam. During training he also joined M.A. in Rakum School for the blind. In 2009 he completed his M.A. degree. In the same year he got admission in B.Ed. in Venketeshwara College with the help of Guruji. He completed his B.ED. in 2011. We are very proud to say that he got 89% marks in B.ED. After he joined our school, working here now he feels comfortable and also wants to serve this institution in future.

Mr Narashimha Reddy

Mr Narashimha Reddy was 25 years old when he came to us after being at home for 11 years. He had become a mental disturbed after he lost his sight. Thanks to the love and attention of Sri Rakum, he doesn't have to undergo mental therapy at NIMHANS anymore.

He has done his M.A, & later moved on to further complete his B.Ed, which he completed with 87% of marks. Narasimha is presently working as the employee at High School Teacher at Devenahalli. Besides practicing Karate and yoga, Narashimha also acts in epic Sanskrit plays and speaks German.
